In 2016, after teaching over 200 children hunting and firearms safety, Matt took a significant step in his career by joining a small manufacturer in West Palm Beach, FL, to build AR-15 rifles. This experience inspired him to launch MJS Guns in 2017, starting with just two tables at gun shows and quickly expanding to seven.
Despite the challenges brought by the pandemic in 2020, Matt opened a retail storefront, maintaining the business’s growth and allowing for the manufacture of nearly 1,000 AR-15 rifles that year.
Achievements and Community Engagement
In December 2020, Matt rebranded his business to Sunshine State Firearms Company (SSFC) to honor his Floridian roots. The company now offers its own AR-15 lower receivers and parts, representing a significant expansion of its product line. SSFC is recognized as a Glock Blue Label dealer and provides specialized services like an in-store 8-week layaway program.
Committed to community support, SSFC has contributed to various causes, including donations to the FWC Fallen Officer Association and the team Hotshots kids’ sporting clay team, underlining its dedication to both firearm enthusiasts and the wider community.
